Job Summary -This is a Remote/Home Office Position based out of the Detroit, MI area.

The Solution Architect (SA) satisfies our customer's business and IT challenges by architecting and designing comprehensive IT infrastructure solutions that combine the capabilities of the IBM product portfolio with key solutions from partners specializing in virtualization, consolidation, business intelligence and networking.  SAs have strong technical skills complimented by relationship skills and are viewed as a consultant to the customer. They are valued because of their ability to analyze a customer's business and IT challenges and then designs a comprehensive solution.  This solution integrates smoothly into the customer's environment leveraging the appropriate products.  SAs are a Mainline "Technical Sales Support" resource who will work with an Account Executive, Sales Executive, Brand Executive, or Systems Engineers to architect, design, present and propose total infrastructure solutions.  These solutions should focus on cross-brand products and are driven by opportunity.  Technical opportunities involving single brands will remain as a responsibility of the Systems Engineers or brand sales teams as appropriate.  The results expected from a SA's involvement include the building of Mainline loyalty, increased business, strategic and innovative usage of IBM technologies, and higher customer satisfaction. 

 

The goal of the Solution Architect is to provide architectural and complex solution advice and support that enables a customer to confidently accelerate purchase and deployment decisions.  This guidance should help the customer realize optimum return on their IT investment and perceive Mainline as their primary technology partner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Team with the Systems Engineering community, or other sales communities as appropriate, as their Technical Partner.
  • Have a working knowledge of the Industries and companies they support.
  • Represent IBM's and the focus solution partner's "point of view" to the customer.
  • Design and architect solutions for customers that integrate multiple product lines and services.
  • Engage in technical strategies, projects, and activities leading to customer adoption of key enterprise-wide new workload and solution areas, calling upon the greater architect community as appropriate.
  • Engage early in the sales cycle with recommendations on technology directions, new application deployments, platform selection and infrastructure enablement.
  • Facilitate the technical portion of a complex opportunity providing leadership in Servers, Storage, Software, and Services including teaming with the greater architect community to craft end to end solutions.
  • Understand both the strategic marketing and technology strategy of IBM and key focus solution partners and use this knowledge to influence customer IT purchase decisions.
  • Provide "give back" to the profession through professional contributions: Publications, authoring technical articles or journals, and providing customer feedback to IBM and key focus solution partners.
  • Provide "give back" to the profession by mentoring junior members of the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience

  • BA or BS degree or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in customer facing environments with good presentation skills.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Solution Designer ' Analyze a customer's business and IT challenges and design a comprehensive solution that integrates smoothly into the smoothly into the customer's environment, is checked carefully for reliability, availability and scalability, and leverages the appropriate IBM and vendor partner products in order to increase Mainline sales.
  • Technology Advisor ' Lead the Mainline team in promoting the applicability of the SA's focus solution(s) in order to achieve buy-in from the enterprise's management and IT communities, seeking to create new opportunities as well as advance existing sales efforts.
  • Methodologist ' Lead customers and the Mainline team in selecting and employing the use of appropriate methodologies and design tools to achieve the desired business and technical results.
  • Facilitator ' Be a leader in fostering communication among customer, partner and Mainline teams.
  • Project Advisor ' Lead the Mainline team in ensuring that the business vision has been satisfied through the design, adapting to inevitable design compromises and modified nonfunctional requirements, suggesting solutions to customer skill gaps, correcting architectural errors, and observing the deployed system to harvest lessons for future projects.

  •  Physical environmental factors of this position include those found in typical business office environment or home office environment.
  • Requires use of general office equipment and personal computer equipment.
  • Ability to travel.  Various means of travel may be required, including auto and air travel.  This position requires travel: Occasionally
