Job Summary:This is a remote/home office position.

We are currently seeking Systems Engineers with DB2 DBA skills for our z Managed practice.  Focus areas are DB2 DBA expertise within a z/OS environment. Primary responsibility of maintaining DB2 environments as either an in-house resource or as part of a managed team is required.

This position will provide z DB2 DBA support services to Mainline customers. Depending on need these services may range from basic maintenance through complex system implementations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide z DB2 related support services to Mainline clientele on either a project or managed basis.
  • Participate in the development of proposals and presentations to management and clients.
  • Assist in the identification of additional service opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to our clientele. 
  • Work with client and Mainline Marketing to assure solution meets the client's business objective.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Design and implement DB2 databases.
  • Work with developers to create and maintain schema objects, plans, and triggers.
  • Understand the principals of, and know how to implement, relational integrity.
  • Know what constitutes a good primary index.
  • Know how to implement new stored procedures, and, if necessary, new stored procedure address spaces.
  • Monitor and tune performance using Omegamon for DB2 (DB2 PM) and Query Workload Tuner.
  • Implement utilities to reorg, clone, backup, and recover databases, including Disaster Recovery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve job failures and technical issues.

Education and/or Experience

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Experience working with DB2 data sharing / multiple DB2 systems / multiple versions of DB2.
  • Ability to manage, re-organize, and back-up environment.
  •  Strong DB2 problem determination and resolution skills.
  • Experience with the following tools: DB2 Utilities Suite, Omegamon for DB2, Query Workload Tuner, Buffer Pool Tuner.
  • Written and communication skills are very important; this person must be able to present to client management.
  • Being well-versed in MS tools (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) is a definite plus.
  • Any exposure to the systems programming aspects of DB2 would be an additional plus.

 

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  •  Physical environmental factors of this position include those found in typical business office environment or home office environment.
  • Requires use of general office equipment and personal computer equipment.
  • Ability to travel.  Various means of travel may be required, including auto and air travel.  This position requires travel: Occasionally
  • May be required to work irregular schedules including but not limited to as applicable:  Nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and/or overtime.
