Position SummaryThis is a remote/home office position.

We are currently seeking DB2 skilled Systems Engineers for our z Managed practice.  Focus areas are DB2 systems programming skills in an IBM z/OS environment. Experience with maintaining z DB2 environments as either an in-house resource or as part of a managed team is required.

 Primary responsibility for this position is to provide z DB2 system support services to Mainline customers. Depending on need these services may range from basic maintenance application through complex DB2 implementations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide z DB2 related support services to Mainline clientele on either a project or managed basis.
  • Participate in the development of proposals and presentations to management and clients.
  • Assist in the identification of additional service opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to our clientele. 
  • Work with client and Mainline Marketing to assure solution meets the client's business objective.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven ability to work with project teams, account teams, and customers to provide industry best professional services.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail orientated and the willingness and ability to follow processes and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through skills.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task.
  • Must have familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Expertise with designing and implementing DB2 databases.
  • Ability to work with developers to create and maintain schema objects, plans, and triggers.
  • Understanding of, and knowing how to implement, relational integrity.
  • Knowledge of what constitutes a good primary index.
  • Stored procedures and new stored procedure address spaces implementation skills.
  • Monitor and tuning expertise a plus.
  • DB2 utility skills to reorg, clone, backup, and recover databases, including Disaster Recovery.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve job failures and technical issues.

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum of six years of z DB2  systems programming experience.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in customer facing environments with good presentation skills is desired.
  • Expertise with z DB2 related ISV products is a plus.
  • z subsystem experience such as CICS or MQ etc. are also pluses. 
  • IBM or other appropriate vendor certifications are desired.

 

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  •  Physical environmental factors of this position include those found in typical business office environment or home office environment.
  • Requires use of general office equipment and personal computer equipment.
  • Ability to travel.  Various means of travel may be required, including auto and air travel.  This position requires travel: Rarely - less than 5% travel
  • May be required to work irregular schedules including but not limited to as applicable:  Nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and/or overtime.
